My name is Sofia, and I create ball jointed dolls since 2008.
Dolls are my passion for as long as I can remember. I started as painting&customization artist, but I found this field limiting and always dreamt of creating the dolls of my own.
For several years I studied sculpture, learned to work with a variety of materials and at last discovered porcelain, which is still my absolute favorite medium. In 2013, I created my first porcelain doll line.
For many years, I was fascinated by the idea to transform such ancient craft as porcelain doll making into fine art. In this time of fast development, I strive for traditional techniques and sustainability in art; for that reason, I create all my works by hand, using natural materials and techniques proven over centuries.
I am also the creator of the YouTube channel Sofie Dolls and promote the art of doll making to a wider audience. I consider popularizing doll art and standing for dolls to be taken seriously as fine art to be one of my main goals as an artist.

I believe dolls are a very “humanistic” form of art, ideal for the expression of human emotions. A doll is a creation at the intersection of an object and a man-made person. We don’t just appreciate dolls as works of art, but also empathize with them. Because of that, I find dolls to be the perfect medium to explore the human image.
Besides that, art dolls are a perfect place for exploring one’s craftsmanship. I never stop trying new crafts to implement into my art, and with all of my projects I strive for creating something beautiful. I believe art and beauty makes world a better place, and I am happy to share my creations with you!
